A short Blue roan stands on a tall grassy hill, the sun at her back. she lifts her dark head, her eyes scanning the endless grassland for any signs of her beloved herd. seeing nothing, she turns around and starts to walk back to the place where she last saw her herd. when she gets there, she lays down in the trampled down grass. where have they all gone?, she wonders. she closes her eyes stunning hazel eyes, hoping her her herd will return to her.

Feeling good, Red Knight was amidst an exhilarating romp, but it was cut short when he spotted a horse that was clearly too young to be away from his or her herd. He sniffed the air. A filly, it seemed. Not that it mattered; filly or colt, this needed attention. His mind made up, he ambled over with a light snort to get the filly's attention.

The roan startled awake at the sound of a soft snort off to her left. She leaped to her feet and shied away a few steps, eyeing the new comer cautiously. Her eyes take in a strong built horse, he had a brilliant coat that caught the sunlight as he moved and wise, knowing eyes. She froze for a second, unsure wether to run or stay and talk to this strange horse.she decided to stay for Maybe he knows where her herd had gone! " who.. Who are you? She asks, ducking her head to show submission, her slight frame trembling slightly.

He tossed his mane in a show of pride that was perhaps somewhat undue, but as a young stallion, he was by no means exempt from egotistical moments. "There's no need to be afraid of me. My name is Red Knight, but you can call me Red. But who are you, filly? Where is your herd? You're too young to be on your own."

The filly lifted her head, much less afraid of him now. "My name is Koti" she said in a stronger voice. "But I don't know where my herd is, I went out for a run and wen I got back they were all gone" her voice cracks on the last word and she drops her head again, her eyes filled with sorrow. But then her ears fly forward, an idea has come to her. " mabe you could help me!" She exclaims, the words flying out of her mouth before she could stop them. She looks down at her hooves, embarrassd by her outburst. " I mean, if you want to". He is a fine young stallion she thinks, he probably has his own herd to get back to....

His ear flicked thoughtfully, "It seems odd that a herd would take off without one of their young... especially a filly... unless something bad happened..." He sighed, "I haven't been in this area long enough to have run into any herds, but I will try to help you. ...It's not as though I have any other commitments."

"I know" she sighed, I am worried about them."my herd is not very big, there are 11 members including me. I really hope they are alright." The filly glanced around " there are enought of them that they should have left a trail..." She starts to wander around the edge of the trampled down area of grass, flicking her tail at Red to do the same....

"That's an average size, I think, so yes, they should have left a trail." He followed her example, sniffing for the scent of other horses as well, or perhaps danger; really anything that would offer a clue.

"Look, over here!" Koti exclaims, trotting over to what looked like a trail. The ground was all torn up, as if they had left in a hurry.."the trail seems to large for only 11 horses though...but why would there Be others with them?" Koti looks closer, lowering her dark head to the ground. And what she sees sends a stab of fear through her. " look.." She whispers, "blood."

Red trotted over and looked at the area she indicated, his ears tilting back a bit, "I can venture a guess as to why there are more hoof prints than there should be, but it wouldn't account for the blood... At least... I don't think it would..."

Koti turned to look at him, her hazel eyes briming with tears. She makes eye contact with him, wondering if they are thinking the same thing. She starts to open her mouth to ask but then she snaps it shut, deciding that some things are better left unsaid. As the first tear starts to fall she stamps her foot and tosses her mane, her pride not allowing her to cry infront of this horse she just met. She shakes her head, scattering the rest of her tears and turns back to the trail. " I think we should follow it" she says, flicking her tail at Red. Koti lowers her head and sniffs at the blood, wondering if he is up for an adventure....

"...Maybe you should hang back somewhere safe... I can go investigate and then come back for you..." He looked down the path, certain that if things got worse further down, it would be too much for the youngster to handle.

Koti turned to face him, and tilted her ears back. she stood up as strait as she could, and stretched her neck up towards him, trying her best to look him in the eye. but being much shorter then him, she still had to look up to the young stallion. she puffed out her chest and said in a determined voice " i may be young, but i have seen alot and they are my family. I must help find them. And besides", she said, winking at him as she turned back to the trail "who is going to protect YOU from all the scary monsters?"

He pinned his ears back and snorted, "Protect ME?! Who was the one who--" No, he wouldn't play her game. "You are staying here, and that's final. I can and will outrun you if I must. Do not be a fool." With an agrivated swish of his tail, he moved around her.

Koti was just about to make a sharp retort when she stopped herself. He could clearly best her in a fight but he was built for speed, not distance, unlike her. She trotted up to his side as he moved around her and smiled sweetly at him, keeping pace with his brisk walk.
