Hyrra nodded in understanding, and looked to the mountaintops. "Yes, well you can stay here as long as you like. Equus knows I'd enjoy some company once in a while." She was thankful...that was the word, wasn't it? Thankful? She wanted them to stay with her very much, and she was sort of relieved that the mare was set on it. It wasn't even as though there were many predators here, but when they were it was good to have a little group to ensure your own safety. Hyrra was a barbarian, she fought valiantly and bravely defending herself and her lands, but it was still nice to have someone around. The only thing she couldn't fight were... Her ears flicked backwards. Something didn't sound right. It was almost as though...there were hoofbeats... Her eyes widened and she got to her feet quickly, nostrils flaring and ears rotating, her entire form frozen. Hoof beats. That couldn't mean...they hadn't survived, had they? She didn't think anyone could have survived such a snowfall...

Flare bobbed her head, but it was cut short as she heard the hoofbeats too. She lifted her head and gave a short, shrill call for Tusk, then stepped up protectively close to Hyrra. "...If the approaching horses are a threat, we stand a better chance together."
Tusk came trotting over at his mother's call, and moved close to her side, but there was clearly a willingness to fight behind his fear, despite how young he was. Perhaps it was because he was male, but regardless, he wasn't about to hide behind the mares.

Hyrra glanced at the mare and foal and nodded. "You're right," she said, looking up at the mountain range that fringed them. "We better move, just in case. I'd rather not bump into them if they are some sort of threat." The horses that were around here were usually small like herself, but the others...they had been large, larger even than the mare she was with now...and if she could help it, she would stay away from them. "Follow me. I know of a pass we could get through so they cannot spot us." She looked at the colt and smiled despite her fear in an attempt to reassure him. "This way," she said, breaking into an even canter that carried her snappily through the grasses.

"Yes, that's a good idea." She nudged Tusk forward so that he was safely behind Hyrra and in front of her, and keeping guard at the rear, followed the pony.
Tusk didn't realize his mother's intention in placing him there was to protect him; instead he thought she put him there so that she could hide behind him and he could protect her, and he puffed his chest in a show of bravado.
