My first attempt at an RP... PLEASE SEND A LINK TO THE DESCRIPTION OF YOUR CHARACTER TO BETTER UNDERSTAND WHERE TO GO WITH THE STORY. how so? well... we can't go to the mountains if a Hippocampus is involved can we? THE FIRST PART IS NOT MEANT FOR INTERACTION, it's just an intro to an important event... if anyone would like to act as a witness to it feel free, it might hellp the story later. What is allowedAs many characters as you like as long as they are equine. Fantasy or magic is allowed, you may kill one of the minor characters later on if you like. Only a maximum of 2 characters per player, please! otherwise it can get confusing. What is not allowedHuman characters. Major Characters involvedTaro allequineroleplay.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=bios&thread=114&page=1Hayate (reference coming soon) Vester i48.tinypic.com/8xvmud.jpg Amaya Phantomfilly 's character Minor CharactersFour demon foxes (kitsunes) (they're the bad guys so don't expect them to act all nice and cuddly...) - Jiro: Two tails, the younger of the four, the most violent -Saburo: Three tails, the second youngest, the king of lies -Shiro: Four tails, second oldest, the traitor. -Goro: Five tails, the eldest, the most powerful. SettingHave you ever seen Samurai Jack? if you have then it would be easier to explain, it's a stylized, Japanese-ish alternative universe, closer to old samurai stories than anime (think, Samurai Jack, Tezuka's Dororo, old Samurai films) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The full moon hung tall and proud in the sky, illuminating a path between a few scattered rice fields... everything stood still and silent... the only signs of life in that wild country came from frantic hoofbeats...
A roan pony galloped as fast as he could along the path... his nostrills flaring, his grey eyes full of rage... Further and further he goes... as far away from home as he can... blinded by anger... driven by pride.... suddenly, he stops.
Before him, a pair of ruby eyes stare at him from the darkness... they belong to a beautifull golden pony mare... her mane flows like silk, her coat shines like gold... she giggles sweetly and flutters her eyelashes at the roan colt.
He snorts and stares with his head held high, he is intrigued... but unsure... he makes no move to approach but continues to stare as she moves closer to him.
The mare giggles and turns around... tree tails fan behind her, like peacock feathers come... come with me, it will be fun... at the sight of them he snorts and backs away, staring at her... but a second pair of eyes floats behind him... he turns sharply to look at them... as he does more eyes appear around him... the golden mare's giggles become less sweet.... he is surounded.
foxfire surounds the pony, he charges at the eyes but they dissapear an re-appear faster than he can react, the demonic laughter becomes louder... He kicks and struggles but only air meets his hoofs... he can feel them closing on him... the foxfire draws circles around him, drawing closer and closer... there is no escape...
The scream of a horse shatters the air the world is covered in darkness once more... .....Light begins to peek trough the horizon, an older roan walks the same path... his grizzled mane covers his eyes, he stops right at the crossroads one leads home, the other to the unknown wildlands... the tracks end there, nothing is left, not even a hair.... He bows his head... his eyes shadowed by his heavy mane, nothing... absolutley nothing... he sighs "that foolish colt..."
he lifts his head and sniffs the air, his ears pricked, the wind blows his mane away, his steel colored eyes scan the wildlands around him for any signs of life, his journey has just begun... he takes the path to the wildlands and walks away without turning back....

((Hope you don't mind me hopping in! Vester here has a past that links him to a human self but I hope that's not a problem )) Bio Name: Vester Sex: Stallion Age: 9 Breed: Mustang x Andalusian Coat Color: Grey dun Eye Color: Dark blue Facial Markings: None, black face Leg Markings: black points Body Markings (if any): piercing in one ear, two large scratches down his shoulder Mane and Tail Color: Black Reference Pic (link): i48.tinypic.com/8xvmud.jpgHistory: Vester is a curious stallion. Little is known about him, though what’s for sure is that one side of his parentage was not born wild. Vester himself doesn’t like to talk about his past, be it painful or just irrelevant to him, and prefers to live for the moment. What is known about him though is that the piercing was some sort of identification mark, and the two large scars he bears on his shoulder are from a fight he’d much rather forget. Personality: Vester is a withdrawn and somewhat cold individual, preferring to stay by himself instead of socialising with others. He predominantly lives in the mountains and other rocky outcroppings to save bumping into anyone, and lives the life of an exiled bachelor. He’s grumpy and can be easily irritated, using his hooves and teeth before he thinks. He does however have an honest and heroic streak that he hates. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The stallion was restless. The light had just streamed through the small entrance to the cave he had called his home for a Moon Cycle, and as he opened one eye against the light the pupil dilated and an ear fell back where it was sure to stay for the rest of the day. He lifted his head and let out a rumbling noise as he yawned, his yellowing teeth uncharacteristically sharp for a usual stallion. His muzzle was cut and scarred by the many years of being a bachelor stallion and indeed his entire body seemed to have little nicks and scratches from past battles. The most prominent though were the two long and cruel looking scars that ran down one muscular shoulder, the pink and vulnerable flesh poking through them at their largest points.
Vester hauled himself to his feet and shook his curled black mane violently, dust from the cave floor flying out in small clouds, and then he turned to the entrance. With a small rumbling whicker he walked towards it, his hooves sounding out throughout the cave as he moved. It didn't matter; no one would hear him for miles around. No one lived near here, even less likely was it that they were equine, and Vester liked it that way. He kept himself to himself and he expected everyone else to do the same. With his track record, it was the best thing for him to do.
The mouth of the cave led out to a small precipice and this was where the stallion stopped and looked out across the land. It looked desolate and untouched, but he couldn't help smiling to himself. It was okay if he smiled now; no one could see it. No one....the smile quickly dropped and he scoured the landscape for anything new. He noticed a small shape in the distance moving towards the area and his black tipped ears pricked forwards. He couldn't make out what it was at this distance, but it was a larger creature than he was used to. The wind kicked up around him and spun his coat around in the forceful gust, mane first eclipsing his form and then exposing it as it flew back behind him. It flickered like the tongues of fire, and his exotic blue eyes narrowed. Just what was that?
He decided it was his business to find out. With no sound whatsoever, he vanished from the cave's edge and began the winding walk down to the common ground. He wasn't going to let out a sound to announce his presence- he didn't know what the creature was, and he relied on the advantage of surprise. He lowered his head and ducked into the undergrowth grizzled by the dryness of the area. It hadn't rained in a while, Vester could tell by the hard ground, and he would have to be extra cautious. His ears flicked back, and his eyes set into an icy coldness. Whatever it was, it wasn't going to pass through without a fight if he thought it looked threatening.

((no problem at all as long as he doesn't turn into a human, wellcome to the RP )) The grizzled pony walked steadily along the path, his thick mane covered his eyes, his pace was steady, his stance calm and confident... the desolate, dry landscape was completly unfamiliar to him but he did not fear the unknown, he had seen many things during the war and he was ready for whatever may come.
A gust of wind lifted some dust off the ground and rustled the dry vegetation, he stopped... the wind carried a scent to him... he lifted his head and sniffed the air, the wind blew his forelock out of the way, his steel eyes where narrowed "Who is there?" his voice was loud and firm, his head was turned in the direction of the scent, his eyes and ears fixed in the place where it was comming from... his mane rustled like grass in the wind but he did not move a muscle "I know there is someone there, show yourself" his firm voice held no hostility.

((nope, thank you )) Vester remained silent but inwardly cursed himself. He should have down better than to travel upwind, but the sound that came to him on the air was definitively equine which settled him somewhat- but only a little. An equine could still pose a threat, and he was ready to fight tooth and nail if he needed to. He was born a fighter and he would die one, he betted, but he knew it wasn't going to be today. His nostrils flared. His tail flicked back against his hocks. But he knew he had lost the element of surprise and there was no going back now. He let out a low whicker of warning that he was about to come through the brush and began to move forwards, his head still lowered. Who in their right mind would be travelling through here? This isn't exactly an ideal place for tourists and travellers he thought to himself as he walked.
He finally reached the path and stepped onto it with the plodding pace of an old war destrier, and as he made himself fully visable he stared at the horse before him. His nose wrinkled. "What's your business here?" he asked rather acidly. It was nothing personal; Vester had a bad temper and even worse social skills, so he figured being immediately direct was his best bet. His black forelock curled around his face and hid one blue eye from view, but the other focused on the visitor like a missile. "I'm not used to this path being used by anyone other than me", he added.

Taro held the stallions blue gaze while carefuly considering the situation, the stranger was definetly taller than him and looked strong... scars... that meant he had fought hard and lived to tell the tale... the way he moved comfirmed his suspicions... another warrior. He could fight him if he had to but he didn't know how long he had to walk, a fight would only slow him down.
So he chose honesty "I am in the middle of a quest, I will not trouble you if you let me trough" somehow, he knew it won't be that easy, he held his firm stance... he wanted to show him he did not fear him, and that he won't be moving from the path anytime soon... only his mane moved, rustling in the wind.

"A quest?" At these words, Vester laughed bitterly. "No quests run through here, none that I've known of anyway." He narrowed his eyes and lowered his head to make himself closer to the stranger's eye level. Well, he looked more similar than Vester liked to admit. His whole aura and demeanour stank of fighter and warrior, and Vester flicked an ear back. What sort of quest would a lone warrior be undertaking? He remained stock still, the only movement being caused by the wind, as he asked, "What sort of quest would you be going on that requires crossing this wasteland? I've not seen hide nor hair of another horse for years." And he liked it that way, he was hastening to add, but he was sure his tone of voice would bring that to the other's attention easily enough. If it was a fight he was headed towards, however...that would interest Vester very much.

.."I've not seen hide nor hair of another horse for years..." Vester's words ran trough his mind, he let out a sigh... that was not a good sign... Taro took a step forward defiantly "That is none of your concern, now step aside I don't wish to lose my time with you" he was begining to lose his patience... as much as he wanted to avoid a fight he knew there was probably no way around it, he had to keep going, for his son's sake...
He closed his eyes for a moment and took a deep breath... he released it just as he oppened his eyes... they had changed, from the calm eyes of a weary traveler to ones glinting like the steel on a sword.. a fierce stare that belonged to a dragon more than a pony... he glared at Vester with his ears pressed against his head "if you don't move I'll make you move"

Vester pinned his ears back at the other stallion's change in attitude and drove his hoof as hard as black diamonds into the dry earth as a warning. The wind began to pick up still further, and as Vester raised his eyes he could feel it building towards him, whipping around his hocks and making his mane and tail buffett in the unnatural force. It felt as though it was whipping around him in a ball, waiting to be expelled with force. Oh Godfathers, not now... he thought irritably. "There is no need for harsh words or threats", he said with narrowed eyes, "but as I said, no horses come through here often. You can't blame a guy for being curious." He recognised the change in eye colour and bared his teeth, not wanting to get involved in a fight so soon. "I'm not going to harm you, not if I'm not harmed first, but whatever...quest you're on, it would be best to know the territory would it not?" He looked behind him and saw that he was inadvertedly making small dust clouds in the earth with his tail. He rolled his eyes. He thought he would have been able to handle his...gift...with age, but all it did was make it more powerful and erratic.

Taro held his fight stance for a few seconds longer... then shook his neck and snorted, he walked a little to release the tension from his mind "do forgive me, I have fought for too long and traveling has made my spirit weary" he bowed his head as an apology.
it was then that he noticed the wind, strange... the air had been still moments ago, he sniffed the air but could not detect a trace of a storm... very strange... he quickly shifted his attention back to the stallion "my name is Taro, I have been walking nonstop for days searching for my son, he was taken by unknown forces four nights ago... I suspect demons, they come after lost and weary travelers after dark... I walked aimlesly hoping to get lost" he took a look around "and seeing as I wandered into someone else's territory... I think I succeeded"

The winds around Vester seemed to calm as the stallion's temper susided, though his suspicion that never truly ebbed made his mane curl a little tighter for good measure. "I knew how that felt, back when I was active", he said simply, the look in his eyes signifying that he would very much like to return to those days. He looked around at the dancing leaves behind him and gave them such a scowl that they appeared to drop down dead, before he turned back to the other smaller pony. After he introduced himself Vester decided it was probably good manners to do the same. "My name is Vester, and if I am honest this territory shouldn't belong to me." He swung his head up to regard it with slight contempt. "I'm not a native, as you can probably tell. The last owner of this territory was a tyrant and a fiend, so I'm sure the land is grateful that he's been deposed." Vester thought of the bleached bones somewhere in the plain but shook his head free of such thoughts and focused on the tale of the traveller. "Demons you say? I did hear some disturbance last night as I tried to sleep." He flicked his ear back and looked behind him. "I took it to be the yowling of feral dogs and ignored it."

"A tyrant? I fought tyrants before so I can relate" he remembered the battles he fought with his master, he was about to mention it but tought better of it... experience had taught him to keep his partnership with humans a secret when talking to strangers, horses born free often had had bad experiences with humans, so their dislike for domestic horses was understandable.
"Yes, demons, but not your average kind, all I know is they resemble predators... they come out at night when the moon is highest in the sky" he shook his mane to the other side of his neck "I would like to investigate the place where the noise was coming from, could you lead me there?"

Vester smiled for the first time, but it was a grim and darkly unpleasant one. It was clear that the stallion wasn't accustomed to smiling very often. "I've fought many tyrants in my time", he said simply, "and not all of them were equine shaped." He remembered back to the time when he had walked amongst the two leggeds, tall and proud, a soldier of the grand army. Before he'd happened across the withered old hag in the forest he was decimating... He quickly drew back from such memories and instead focused on what the smaller horse was saying. He flicked an ear back at the mention of predators and looked behind him. "Well, I don't know if it was these demons of which you speak, but I'm sure I could try to track where the noise was coming from. I was in my dwelling high above this common ground, but I can see for miles from there. I can vaguely remember where I heard the disturbance." He pivoted around on his hind legs, half-rearing as he did so, and began to walk along the path, his body more mottled with scars and bites from the back. His dark dorsal stripe ran to the base of hsi tail, and it flicked from side to side to ward off the unruly midges that were typically active at this time of the day. "This way", he added as a way of instructing the other horse to follow.

Not all equine? perhaps he had lived with humans before... he chose not to talk about it any further in case it was an unwellcomed conversation.
Taro noded "Thank you" and followed behind the bigger stallion, he was impressed by the amout of scars in his gray coat, the sign of an experienced soldier... he himself had several scars hidden between his dense coat, he even had a few inside his mouth, he took a quick glance at the bandage just above his hock... that one had never healed properly, he stomped his hoof to get rid of those pesky flies... seeing as his cropped tail couldn't do it.
He wasn't used to talking much so he followed behind the stallion quietly, visualy exploring the landscape as he went, his ears and eyes ready to pick up any sign movement...

Vester walked with a purpose, but made sure to collect his gait somewhat for the smaller horse to keep up. He knew he sometimes walked a bit too fast for horses of his own size to keep up with. He flicked his tail again to ward off the midges and kept the silence between them, happy with the fact he didn't have to try and make conversation. He had always preferred it that way.
He lowered his head to the ground and inhaled sharply, picking up the scent that had wafted to his cave the night before, and jerked upright like a bloodhound. "They went off in this direction", he said, and without warning he veered off the path and into the thicket, the sharp vegetation snagging in his coat every now and again.
He bit back the squeals of pain any other horse would have uttered, and instead focused carefully. The wind picked up again, and with the narrowing of his eyes the thicket in front of them blew backwards and cracked due to its dry state. Soon there was a fully forged path leading away from them and towards a small clearing. Vester grunted appreciatively and began to walk forwards again, a little more confident now.

((may I play with the scenery a bit for the next scene? I'd like to introduce the foes in a little while )) Taro jumped back a little as the thicket parted before him, he stood still, watching Vester as he walked forward... the wind again? perhaps it was the stallion that.... no, it couldn't be... he shook his head and snorted, breaking into a canter to catch up with Vester.
he followed along with his ears alert, shaking his head now and then to ward off the flies... there seemed to be a lot of them. his tiny tail was useless against them, his flanks quivered as more and more flies stood on them... "Damn bugs....." he murmured trough gritted teeth Then he stopped abruptly as the reason for the increase in the amount of flies hit his nostrils like a brick wall...
"Death...." the scent was everywhere....
