"Aye lass, they be a great deal more intelligent in some ways, but others..." he shook his dial "even a newborn foal sees more than they do! I think they've named some of us fair, no doubt. Certianly all others like meself i've grazed with share my wandering tendancies!" Florian turned his dial toward Summer. "Well, my color doesn't exactly lend itself tae hidin either lass, but most predators out here wouldnae attack a healthy group of us, unless they're desperate or have numbers. Of all, only wolves usually travel in numbers, and i'm yet tae see any signs of them up here." He snorted, tossing his dial, trying to clear his forelock from his eyes. "While we're on oddities of ourselves, i'd like tae know why i've got so much hair! If ye both think it's a lot now, wait till it turns colder, it grows longer! By Equus I cannae see the point of it all!"

"I guess you do have a point there..." She tilted her head in a thoughtful gesture, perhaps learned from her humans, "Though it is indeed a good thing that there have been no signs of them." As used to running as she was, she didn't want to do it out of the need to flee danger at her fetlocks. Florian's complaints about his hair, however, got a light whinny of amusement from her, "Well, I assumed it's meant to keep you warm, considering, buuuuuut if it bothers you, I suppose you could run yourself through some things that would end up trimming it." She granted him a lighthearted horsey smirk, and tossed her own mane.

"Ye've nae idea how much I wish that'd work, lass!" Florian replied. "All that running through the briar accomplished was I ended up withmore tangles and branches in both my mane and tail" He sighed, shaking his dial to clear his forelock from his eyes again. "If there was anything I do miss about bein with humans, tis getting groomed, lass!"

"Oh yes, grooming. grooming is nice..." She looked distant for a moment, lost briefly in the memory, but her expression cleared quickly enough. Perhaps it was bold of her, but next she acted on an idea that popped into her head. She walked up to Florian, and with her teeth, carefully lifted his forelock off his head, though her words were distorted through her teeth, "Der, now I jus need to shtay like dis."

Florian nodded in agreement. "Yes, it most certianly is lass, especially when it lets ye see!" He was a little suprised at Summer's next move, but as odd as it was, it did the trick. He grinned. "Well thankee lass, but I dinna think ye'd be comfortable standing there long!"

She looked thoughtful a moment before letting go, careful not to drop his forelock back into his eyes, "I guess you're right. You need one of those teethy things human females use to keep their manes still... ...I think they're called clips. Maybe if we see a human wearing one, we can grab it and run." With her tone still playful, it was not clear if she meant that as a serious idea or not, and even if she did, working the clip would no doubt be a challenge.

Cherokee listened to the two's chatter idly, not truly paying them much attention. She was happy she had the company now, but she realised how nice it was being alone too. She had sunk to her knees and led flat out on the ground, her breath coming in short pants as her foal squirmed around inside of her. She let out a long groan and flicked her eyes around like radar, making sure to catch every snippet of sound. These two had known humankind; they had known what it was like to be owned, to be looked after, to be tame. She hadn't, and she felt the conversation was not for her involvement. Being wild had its advantages, of course, but she was sure she'd be as annoyed as Florian if she had such a long forelock and feathering as he did. She got to thinking about her foal, and whether it would be like her or Jazz. The very thought of Jazz turned her stomach, but it might be nice to have his little carbon copy around to remind her of what might have been, had she been more sensible. She lifted her head up as she listened and smiled at them genially. "You two talk in such a strange way for a feral beast like me," she said. "I've never met horses that were once in the care of the two leggeds. They must be good people, the ones who looked after you, otherwise you'd be bad natured like the wrangler horses I see on the tracks. They have no manners, and constantly bite and paw at one another." She rolled her eyes as if she were mocking the very thought of them.

Cherokee's panting and groan drew Summer's attention, and she turned her focus on the other mare, concern evident; after all, Cherokee was the first pregnant mare Summer had such close contact with. However, when Cherokee spoke, it seemed like maybe there wasn't as strong a need to worry, so her reply was calm enough, "Well, I wasn't owned by any one human in particular. ...I think. I mean... I was with lots of different humans every day. ...Though some more consistently than others. Some were very kind, and others... were very cruel... but I wanted to believe that most were good, so I chose to remain optimistic."

"Aye lass, tae ones that looked after me an' the others were. Most of them anyway...." Florian replied, nodding his dial in agreement. "...of course there were those who weren't, but i'm thinking that regardless of what ye are, you're always going tae have those that look out for each other an those that look out for themselves."

That made sense enough, and she bobbed her head, "That's true, I guess... and I suppose, for the sake of balance, it has to remain that way... The whole 'you can't have the good without the bad' thing, I mean." But she couldn't help briefly thinking about how nice it might have been to have not had the bad parts to deal with.
